White Pomeranians

White Pomeranians

I hope you enjoy these photos of the Dochlaggie White Pomeranians

After spending over 15 years working with white Pomeranians, I have to say that whites are the hardest color in the Pomeranian breed. Too much white breeding in the pedigree and they revert to older style Pomeranian and you also often get problems with loss of pigmentation . The challenge of producing Pomeranians of type and quality with ice white coats is not a easy undertaking.

Breeding out to the other colors like Orange improves type, but can cause lemon shadings, or what some people refer to as "ivory white" in the White Pomeranians which can be difficult to breed out at a later stage. Breeding to wolf sables and cream sables, as an out cross and to help improve the quality of the whites has proved to be my best option. The Wolf sable will help to pale the coat color as well as helping coat texture.

I have noticed that trying to breed whites from parti colors is very hard. As these "whites" rarely stay white, but will be cream or orange and white parti co lour at maturity.

I have also noticed that there seems to as many shades of "white" as there is of black. Just have a look at some of the white dogs like samoyeds at the shows and you will notice that the colour "white" can vary immensely.

I once saw a lovely black jacket, which I bought and then decided at a later date to try and purchase black slacks to match. This proved impossible to do. There was hundreds of different shades of black, but not the right match to my jacket.

The white lines I am working with are lines I have imported into Australia from overseas -whites of UK and Japanese Hadleigh lines to enhance my breeding program.

Dochlaggie is the only breeder of white Pomeranians in Australia. I get so many enquiries that I cannot possibly fill all orders for whites .I don't sell whites here in Australia for breeding.Any white babies sold are desexed prior to leaving Dochlaggie.

I usually get hundreds of enquiries per week wanting a white female for a pet .I rarely have white girl babies available .

As a registered breeder I am bound by the Kennel club's code of ethics, which prohibits breeding for the pet market.

My Pomeranians are the correct size to the Breed Standard and as such only have small litters

One to three babies in a litter being the norm. I hope this makes it easier to understand the limited supply.

A word of warning-If you are offered a white Pomeranian from another breeder here in Australia, well all I can say is -

Please check the parents of your baby - are they white?

Is either parent white? Are they registered with the kennel club?

Are they the correct size?

Ask to see photos and other white Pomeranians that they have bred.

If you are buying over the internet and paying a lot of money for your white Pomeranian baby. It may really pay you to take the time to see the puppy and the breeder's other Pomeranians before purchase.

You could also ask for something in writing that your new baby is a white pomeranian and will be white when an adult.
Most often these "would be whites" are usually cream or parti colors when mature.

There seems to be many Australian Pomeranian breeders advertising that they breed white Pomeranians. I really don't know why they advertise something that they don't have. The usual ploy is to advertise a cream puppy as "white" .

Many disappointed new owners have sent me photos of Pomeranians sold and registered as white. These 'white" pomeranians have not even been cream at maturity but have been Orange. Some of the Breeders of the Pomeranians are Registered breeders who really should have known better.

Breeding White Pomeranians takes years and years of hard work and dedication. I probably should reword that statement, if you just want to breed white pomeranians and don't care about improving the quality, well breeding white Pomeranians is relatively easy, if you have been lucky enough to acquire the right breeding stock. All you really need worry about is breeding white to white to produce white pomeranian puppies. This breeding plan will certainly produce white pomeranian puppies but the quality will deteriorate each generation.

Breeding Show Quality White Pomeranians is the real challenge.
